DJ's tl;dr note: Budoka, rudebwoys and gentlewomen, is a Drum & Bass artist of the Phishmaol Crew based near Frankfurt in Germany. He was a drummer and a guitarist before he started to DJ around 1996 and made his first tunes in 1998. In home- and studio production he found his own unique sound and proceeded to develop it further over time. Ten of his tunes came out on eight vinyl singles, more as digital releases both commercially and on netlabels as well as via other free downloads. Besides Drum & Bass, Budoka made Hiphop together with his crew mate Eli MC as Oberton (they released 6 of their 20+ songs on a 12" EP in 2003) and some lovely but unreleased Techno tracks. Around 2016 he disappeared from the scene... Then in 2019 he made a new tune and in 2020 he played in a club again (just days before the first lockdown), made some more new beats and uploaded another new tune to Soundcloud. And on January 1st of 2021 he had an unnoticed comeback release on Silbarückenbeatz Entertainment. It is high time to celebrate his past musical accomplishments in form, so for the informed Neurofunk mandem and techy queens here are this anthology of Budoka's old Drum & Bass productions mixed in six hours in 6.5 chapters including 37 of the lost unreleased tunes (most of the missing bits from 1999 to 2001 are in the two old "Budoka Bassline Show" mixes). The 6th = last chapter is additional bonus material in recognition of the larger Phishmaol legacy. Go on, check out their releases from the late 1990s, like Rayman's timeless "Valta Roa" and Tyrell's aliases (such as DJ Gargamel) on Gyration. The two old DJ Malice solo tunes are barely a tenth from his vault and Tyrell's "Phishbass," like many 90s tunes, did not come out either, but Bailey had it cut to acetate following a 1997 Phishmaol party . If you make it that far into the mix you will know why he did; it's bound to be one of the unsolved tune ID riddles in some thread on some forum. Connecting with that, tune #81 in the mix is a reflection on the tape recording of the abrupt ending of a Party in Landau in December 2000 where police came and the party was cancelled just 20 sec after Bailey's first tune had dropped ("Obssesion" by Future Cut and Jenna G), two minutes after Budoka's set had ended. Then there was the "Audiophilez" club event series in Darmstadt in the noughties, and more, much palimpsest history. So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.
